An annual compliance checklist should separate recurring tasks from changes that must be handled during the year. Use it as a responsibility tracker and confirm the company's specific dates with its secretary and accountant.
Corporate administration * Confirm registered office and company secretary arrangements. * Review directors, members and significant controller information. * Prepare the applicable annual return using the correct return date. * Check required meetings, resolutions and company records. * Retain filing receipts and official correspondence.
Accounting and tax * Reconcile every business bank and payment account. * Collect invoices, contracts, payroll and expense evidence. * Prepare the financial statements and required audit work. * Review profits tax returns, supporting schedules and payment notices. * Check business registration renewal and other relevant obligations.
Events that cannot wait for year end Officer changes, address changes, share transactions and material provider information updates may need action when they occur. Put a notification step into the company's decision process rather than relying on an annual reminder to discover them.
Close each task with evidence Marking a return “sent to accountant” is not the same as confirming it was filed. Keep the submission receipt, final version and any payment confirmation. Record who checked completion.
For a remote founder, a shared calendar and controlled document folder can be enough to make responsibilities visible. The key is that the director, secretary and accountant know which tasks belong to them and when information is needed from the business.
