What Is AML? Anti Money Laundering for Businesses

AML means Anti Money Laundering. In financial services, it describes the framework of controls used to address the risk of funds connected with criminal activity entering or moving through the financial system.

What a business encounters Providers may verify identity and ownership, ask about activity and funding and review transactions. The extent of checks depends on the relationship and applicable requirements. A request for evidence is not automatically an accusation of wrongdoing.

A practical example A new company expects modest consulting receipts but suddenly receives a large payment from an unrelated business. The provider may ask for the contract and an explanation of the payment's purpose.

How to respond Keep genuine transaction records, explain the economic relationship and answer through a verified official channel. Do not alter invoices or hide an owner to make the account appear less complicated.

KYC and KYB are parts of the broader due diligence process, not synonyms for every AML control. Approval at account opening does not prevent later questions when the activity changes or information needs refreshing.
