A Hong Kong company operating a SaaS product needs a subscription system that matches its contracts, service delivery and accounting. Recurring revenue is valuable only when renewals, access and customer support work predictably.
Define what is being sold Explain the product, user rights, billing interval and cancellation terms. Distinguish a trial, a recurring plan and a one time licence. Providers need to understand the actual service rather than only the phrase software business.
Align billing and access Decide what happens after a failed renewal, plan upgrade, cancellation or refund. Use the provider's supported subscription flow and authentication handling. Avoid leaving paid customers locked out because the product did not process a confirmation correctly.
Keep evidence of delivery Maintain appropriate service and access records, agreed terms and customer communications. Preserve them lawfully and securely. For a dispute, show the relevant usage or delivery facts without inventing a history after the claim arrives.
Review tax and operating location Consumer digital service sales can raise destination VAT questions. Staff, development work and management outside Hong Kong can also affect the wider tax position. Formation does not make those locations disappear.
For an annual plan paid upfront, separate cash receipt from the service period in the accounting discussion. Budget for refunds and support over the obligation period.
