CLUCHED / FIELD NOTES

What Is a Chargeback?

A chargeback is a payment reversal process raised through the applicable card dispute system. It differs from a refund initiated by the merchant and from an ordinary customer support complaint.

What the notice means Read the reason, disputed transaction, amount and response deadline. The relevant evidence depends on the claim. A delivery complaint needs different facts from an unrecognised charge.

A practical example A customer says a product never arrived. The merchant should examine the order, delivery evidence and communications, then respond through the provider's official process. A copy of the incorporation certificate does not answer the delivery question.

The operating impact The amount and fees can affect available funds while the case proceeds. Submitting evidence does not guarantee recovery. Keep the outcome connected with the accounting records.

Prevent avoidable disputes through clear descriptions, dependable fulfilment and accessible support. Customers should be able to resolve a legitimate issue directly, while the business keeps accurate records for cases that still proceed to a formal dispute.
