A registered office move is a company administration change, not simply an update to a website footer. Plan the effective date, mail handling and notifications together so notices do not disappear between addresses.
Arrange the new address first Confirm the service agreement and that the address is suitable for the company's registered office requirements. Agree when the new provider begins receiving mail and who will monitor it. Collect outstanding correspondence and originals from the previous provider.
Prepare the official notifications The Companies Registry uses form NR1 for a change of registered office address. Follow the current instructions and applicable deadline. Consider whether separate business registration or other authority updates are needed for the particular facts rather than assuming one filing updates every system.
Retain the submission evidence and update the statutory records maintained by the company or secretary.
Update operational records Review invoices, contracts, website legal details, banks, processors, insurers and accountant records. Some providers distinguish the registered address from the actual trading address, so change the appropriate field rather than replacing every address indiscriminately.
For a remote business, the founder's work location may remain unchanged while only the registered office changes. Explain that distinction if a financial provider asks about the move.
Verify that the transition worked Check that forwarding instructions are active and that new correspondence reaches the responsible person. Keep the old address and service dates in the historical record for interpreting earlier documents. A short overlap can be useful operationally, but it does not replace the required notification or make an outdated official address acceptable indefinitely.
